HURRICANE & TROPICAL STORM RESTRICTIONS

Hurricane season brings on its own special concerns for those of us in the insurance industry. During periods of hurricane and tropical storm activity, it may be necessary to restrict binding authority for all producers in affected areas. At South & Western, our goal is to have a consistent procedure across all lines of business and departments when binding property based risks.

Therefore, below is a copy of our current guidelines for your reference. These guidelines are South & Western’s official policy and should be followed for all property based lines of business. (Please note: Binding Authority differs by line of business, and company. Refer to your producer agreement for specifics.)

Phase One Restrictions

NEW BUSINESS

No policy coverage may be written or bound on new business in the RESTRICTED COUNTIES listed below when any Hurricane or Tropical Storm is located North of 20º North and West of 80º West

ENDORSEMENTS

No coverage may be increased or bound on any business in the RESTRICTED COUNTIES listed below when any Hurricane or Tropical Storm is located North of 20º North and West of 80º West

RENEWALS

Expiring policies will be renewed providing the renewal policy is not endorsed to increase the physical damage limits of liability.

Phase Two Restrictions

NEW BUSINESS

No policy coverage may be written or bound on new business in the RESTRICTED COUNTIES listed below when the National Hurricane Center’s Track Forecast Cone for any Hurricane or Tropical Storm is located North of 20º North and West of 80º West and indicates a general trend towards the Texas coast.

ENDORSEMENTS

No coverage may be increased or bound on any business in the RESTRICTED COUNTIES listed below when the National Hurricane Center’s Track Forecast Cone for any Hurricane or Tropical Storm is located North of 20º North and West of 80º West and indicates a general trend towards the Texas or Mississippi coast.

RENEWALS

Expiring policies will be renewed providing the renewal policy is not endorsed to increase the physical damage limits of liability.

Phase Three Restrictions

NEW BUSINESS

No policy coverage may be written or bound on new business in the RESTRICTED COUNTIES listed below when the National Hurricane Center’s Track Forecast Cone for any Hurricane or Tropical Storm is located North of 20º North and West of 80º West and touches the Texas coast.

ENDORSEMENTS

No coverage may be increased or bound on any business in the RESTRICTED COUNTIES listed below when the National Hurricane Center’s Track Forecast Cone for any Hurricane or Tropical Storm is located North of 20º North and West of 80º West and touches the Texas or Mississippi coast.

RENEWALS

Expiring policies will be renewed providing the renewal policy is not endorsed to increase the physical damage limits of liability.

Phase One, Two, or Three restrictions will be posted on the homepage of the South & Western website for your reference. However these guidelines will apply regardless whether such restrictions are posted or not. Please contact your underwriter if you have any questions.
